Developing Your Creative Practice Supporting Material (Feb 2019)

In support of my application to the DYCP scheme (Feb 2019), the following series of videos features work I have produced/managed. I’ve also briefly explained my reasons for including each video for this purpose.

1. Video (1:24) - Production Showreel

This video of clips from different projects. It shows:
– the level of excellence at which I work
– my ability to plan and manage complex, high-profile public events
– the trust placed in me to deliver

2. Video (4:27) - Queer Concert Programming & Production

The following clip is from a concert I promoted, produced and played in at Shoreditch Church, London. The headline act is the Canadian band, The Hidden Cameras, notable for their explicitly queer and political attitudes and subject matter. For this one-off concert I:
–  commissioned orchestral parts to accompany the band
–  recruited a volunteer string orchestra
— raised over £1k for the Albert Kennedy Trust, an
LGBT youth homelessness charity
– provided a platform for 2 emerging bands/artists who played as support acts (Lianne Hall, The Gadsdens)

3. Video (4:45) - Community Music & Planning

This video shows one of my community music productions, part of a 5-day orchestra tour. It shows:
– My ability to plan and deliver complex and non-standard public events.
– My involvement with music for social impact.
– My ability to foster partnerships, as this day was produced in collaboration with Middlesbrough local authority.
– My involvement with a project that takes risks and that re-imagines an existing art form for greater accessibility.

4.Video (2:09) - Queer Arts Production & Network

Mother’s Ruin is a queer arts variety show in Manchester which I helped set-up and run for its first 5 years. This experience gave me:
– Exposure to new work and new ways of working
– Access to a new network of more theatre-based practitioners & other queer arts producers/festivals.
– Hands-on experience of setting up a new artistic venture and planning for its sustainability.
